Fieldtrip!

This is the Art-O-Mat at the Concord Gallery. It is awesome. The art-o-mat was created by Clark Whittington, a Concord native. It is old cigarette machines that have been refurbished to distribute miniature works of art. Here are some photos of Lucas selecting an artist and the artwork that he got. It is a photo taken by an artist using a box camera. And the box that the photograph came in is a box camera. Wow! Two awesome things for the price of one!

Working on self-portraits today. The images above show Courtney working on her drawing. You can see in the photo of her drawing and photo how she has gridded both pieces of paper with a 1/2 inch grid. Now she is going square by square up the grid to draw her self-portrait. This technique helps students to get accurate drawings of themselves.

This is the first nose that we drew together as a class. After finishing the first nose together, students have to draw two more noses on their own.

Today we are learning how to draw noses. They are not easy to draw. Noses require really smooth shading and the building up of lots of layers.

Yesterday we learned how to draw an eye, and today we learned how to draw an ear. The students are really improving!
