My Art I classes have been working with tempra paint to create an abstract painting based on color theory.

The first section of their design they paint with a monochromatic color scheme.

The second section of their design they paint with an analogous color scheme.

The third section of their design they paint with a complementary color scheme.

And the fourth and final section of their design they paint with either a warm or cool color scheme.

An Edible Color Wheel

An edible color wheel!

Today during 2nd period Intervention with Art II we made an edible color wheel with white icing, nilla waffers, and primary food coloring (red, blue, and yellow). With only these simple ingredients we were able to create beautiful results that tasted good too!
Leighanna and Savana mixing the perfect shade of violet.
Each group had their own technique.

Some group were more precise than others.
But each group ended up with great results.

Abstract Art

Leighanna working on her abstract design.

Art II is creating abstract art. We are using images a variety of images from the National Geographic Website. Some images are microscopic others are just beautiful patterns found in nature. We used those photographs in step one-we drew small sketches of the images.
Step two- we took multiple aspects from our sketches and combined them into a new and original abstract design.
Step three- we choose one of the designs we liked and transferred in onto a 9x12 piece of drawing paper.
Step four- (We aren't to this step yet.) Students will add color to their designs with colored pencils.

The following photographs are examples of the project we are currently working on in Art II.
Students are using a grid to get their line drawing accurate.
Then they are using graphite pencils to shade the values.

It is a passion of mine...

An art diary, art journal or visual journal
is a journal kept by artists, often containing both words and sketches, and occasionally including mixed media elements such as collages. Such books will frequently contain rough workings, in cartoon form, of ideas later to appear in finished works, as well as acting as a normal diary, by allowing the artist to record their day-to-day activities and emotions

Our Art II class explored the idea of visual journal-ing today. This activity requires more than one class period, but here are some of their works in progress.

I like Adan's windows that open up to reveal images and words underneath.
This page included found objects (bubble wrap and a film strip.)
This student has a nice mixture of watercolor wash, textured paper, a page from a dictionary, and a brown paper bag. This is going to create a great background.
With else can I say but very creative. I can't wait to see how it progresses!
This student also used bubble wrap, but she used it to create an interesting pattern in her background.

Student Examples of Black and White Shapes Project

I am not sure why these images are all sideways.
They are correct on my desktop. :/

Art I-

We are working on designs that are made up of shapes. Here is an example of a design.

These designs will then be recreated with black and white construction paper.

Art II-

Since we are working on a graphite line drawing, it was important to review the art element of value.

Here is an example of one student's photograph and her drawing.
These students (Lena and Ashley) are focused on creating their line drawing using the grid as a guide.
Tyler is in the zone working on his drawing.
