Next week we will begin our pottery projects. We are going to be creating pinch pot critters. This project is usually a class favorite. This is an example of a pinch pot critter from last year. Isn't he adorable?Today we started brainstorming ideas for our pinch pot. As a class we made a list of animals that would make good pinch pot critters.

Then we created 3 designs of different pinch pot critters. The challenge with designing a pinch pot critter is that the body not the legs has to support the weight of the design. Jared designing his first pinch pot critter.Courtney designing her pinch pot creatures.

After designing our pinch pot creatures, we returned to working on our graphite/colored pencil drawings from yesterday.

Homework:
Reminder that homework is due tomorrow because there is no school on Friday, or Monday, or Tuesday. I know the students are very sad about having a fall break. :)

First we drew a value scale in color pencils. We created one with highlights and shades of orange. In the second value scale we used yellow and orange to make yellow-orange, and then we used orange and red to create red-orange.

Next we looked at the photo below and drew a line drawing of the image.
Then we traced circles over some areas of our line drawings. Inside the circles, we shaded the image with color pencils.

Sorry I haven't posted since Thursday, but I was not at school on Friday and Monday. The students have been working hard in my absence. Just to be sure they hadn't forgotten the 6 perspective techniques, we had group discussions about the 6 techniques at their pods today. They discussed the 2 point perspective painting, "Rainy Day".

Then they were given the remainder of class to finish their original city-scapes that they had been working on since Friday. Their drawings are very creative!

Speaking of creative. Those who were finished with their drawings helped decorate our door for Spirit Week and HOMECOMING. We aren't quite finished yet, but it is looking great!!! What do you think?
